Ecoboost Vs Hemi: In-Depth Conversations
You may need a vehicle that acts as a friend to you. Before purchasing one, you must conduct proper research. What is the best Ecoboost or Hemi engine? Here’s where you can find out all.
Ecoboost: What Is It?
Beginning in 2009, Ford began producing 4-cylinder Ecoboost models for its compact cars, such as the Focus & C-Max. Since 2013, a 6-cylinder engine has been available in the firm’s larger cars and SUVs in place of the naturally aspirated Duratec engine. Ford and their vehicle engineering partner FEV co-developed the engine. With the Ecoboost, Ford owners could reduce their carbon footprint instead of having to spend a lot of money on a hybrid engine. There are 10 Ford vehicles with Ecoboost engines today.
Hemi: What Is It?
The Hemi was developed by Chrysler as a military vehicle during the 2nd World War. Chrysler builds a series of hemispherical combustion chamber I6 & V8 engines called the Hemi. Even though this shape of the combustion chamber has been around since the beginning of vehicle design, “Hemi” was trademarked by Chrysler since 1991. Having developed the Hemi engine for airplanes and tanks, Chrysler became the first to create the “Firepower” engine.
Specifications
In recent years, Ford’s F-series line has been America’s top-selling vehicle for 45 consecutive years, part of which is the 3.5L EcoBoost engines. The 213 cubic inches, aluminum block & heads, 60-degree, V-6 with the chain-driven camshaft, double overhead camshaft (DOHC), variable timing twin camshafts, and four valves on each cylinder. This is due to twin turbocharging and high-pressure fuel injection.
EcoBoost 3.5L generates 400 horsepower at 6,000-rpm & 500 lb-ft maximum torque at 3,100-rpm. Due to the torque being available at remarkably low rpm, it provides better acceleration than a diesel engine.
As the new century dawned, Dodge’s Ram 1500 had the least powerful engines of “The Big Three.” The third-generation Ram’s body was introduced alongside the 5.7 Liter Hemi V-8 engine. Compared to the 5.9 L Magnum V-8 engine replaced, the Hemi had 100 more horsepower. Due to its initial ratings of 345 horsepower & 375 lb-ft, the half-ton lasted longer than a competitor.
The iron block, 345 ci, aluminum headed, 90-degree-V8 engine with an old-fashioned, overhead valve, (OHV), dual-valve each cylinder, single camshaft, and flexible valve timing was introduced in 2009. The Ram 1500’s latest engine produces 395 horsepower at 5,600-rpm & 410 lb-ft maximum torque around 3,950 rpm.
Engines
FCA’s ultra-lightweight Etorque hybrid drivetrain system is included on both Ecoboost and Hemi vehicles. In addition, the 6-cylinder now generates 90 lb-ft more torque, equal to 130 lb-ft more for the V8. With the 48-volt hybrid engine, 1500 has automatic start/stop functionality as well as brake energy recovery.
If you’re a diesel fan, the EcoDiesel won’t be available for 2019 because of delays at the EPA, but that won’t delay its release into 2020.
Application
The 2.7 Liter EcoBoost is standard on the midrange Lariat and available on lower trims. 2021 F-150 models are available with the powerful 3.5L EcoBoost engine, and Limited models come with it as standard.
Currently, the 5.7L V8 is the most popular Hemi, found in Dodge Challenger; Dodge Charger, & Chrysler 300c. Additionally, the 5.7-L Hemi’s reputation for strength and reliability has led numerous Ram truck customers to choose it.
Inside
Hemi’s high-end models include higher-quality materials than the F-150’s more conservative cabin. Overall, the Hemi feels much more up-to-date than the F-150 or Ecoboost. Modern infotainment systems are included on both trucks, but the RAM offers a more intuitive system and is available with a 12-inch touchscreen (standard 8.4-inch), which is the largest available as well.
Ecoboost has two ways to use this large display: for navigation only or for dividing and customizing it how you like. As with the F-150, there are many versions and combinations of models. You can secure the vehicle with a 360-degree camera setup and Uconnect features such as Android Auto & Apple CarPlay also.
Powerful Victory
It’s pretty evident that the 2021 Hemi 1500 is generally the greater powerful truck of the two as compared to the 2021 Ford Ecoboost. Both the base & diesel models, the Ram offers more superior performance.
When it comes to hybrids, the Ford F-150 is the leader because it comes with a fully hybrid engine. However, when it comes to maximum power, even when the Raptor is turbocharged, Ecoboost specs are just not comparable to the TRX’s Hemi engine.
Diesel Options
Ford offers 7 different powertrain options on the 2021 Ford F-150, and Ram offers 5 powertrain choices on the 2021 Ram 1500. Both of which are available with a diesel motor. Today, most light-duty trucks offer at least 1 turbo-diesel engine, so Ram and Ford were no exception.
Powered by the 3.0-liter Powered Stroke V6 turbo diesel engine, the Ford F-150 provides a diesel option. There are few alternatives to the engine, which delivers 440-pound feet of torque at a speed of just 1,750 rotations per minute.
Among Ram’s offerings, the 1500 is available with an optional 3.0 liter turbocharged, 3rd-generation V6 EcoDiesel as well. With 3,600 revolutions every minute, it generates 260 horsepower while delivering 480 lb-ft of torque through 1,600 revolutions per minute.
Ecoboost Vs. Hemi: Which Is Better?
Ecoboost Vs. Hemi, which one is the best option? Overall, your answer will be determined by what kind of car you drive and what sort of car you value. Generally speaking, Ecoboost is an excellent choice for car owners seeking a commuter automobile with sporty acceleration and good fuel economy.
FAQs.
Can an EcoBoost beat a Hemi?
The 5.0 V-8, 3.5-L EB, and 2.7-L EB are all capable of beating the Hemi in a straight line race. The Chevy/ GMC 6.2 beats it, and if everything else is equal (or nearly equal), it also defeats the Ford 5.0-L V8.
What truck is better, Ford or Ram?
Comparisons between the Ram-1500 and the Ford F-150 are favorable. However, if you want more horsepower, Ram’s top-tier engine has a few extra horses than Ford’s.
Is EcoBoost better than V8?
EcoBoost V6 High-Output models can tow over 11,000 pounds & carry more than 1,520 pounds. Comparatively, this V8 engine is capable of towing just 10,600-pounds, but it is capable of carrying 3,270 pounds of payload.
Final Thoughts
Ecoboost Vs. Hemi: What is the right choice? If you’re looking for raw power, it becomes harder to choose. The Hemi-equipped Ram has 20 more hp and is about $1000 cheaper, yet has 60 less ft-lbs of torque and a few less mpg compared to the “F-150” with the 3.5 liters “Ecoboost.” Therefore, they are pretty similar, and your decision will likely depend on things like overall reliability, safety features, or how they look.
