Beginning in 2009, Ford began producing 4-cylinder Ecoboost models for its compact cars, such as the Focus & C-Max. Since 2013, a 6-cylinder engine has been available in the firm’s larger cars and SUVs in place of the naturally aspirated Duratec engine. Ford and their vehicle engineering partner FEV co-developed the engine. EcoBoost 3.5L generates 400 horsepower at 6,000-rpm & 500 lb-ft maximum torque at 3,100-rpm. Due to the torque being available at remarkably low rpm, it provides better acceleration than a diesel engine.

As the new century dawned, Dodge’s Ram 1500 had the least powerful engines of “The Big Three.” The third-generation Ram’s body was introduced alongside the 5.7 Liter Hemi V-8 engine. Compared to the 5.9 L Magnum V-8 engine replaced, the Hemi had 100 more horsepower. Due to its initial ratings of 345 horsepower & 375 lb-ft, the half-ton lasted longer than a competitor.

The iron block, 345 ci, aluminum headed, 90-degree-V8 engine with an old-fashioned, overhead valve, (OHV), dual-valve each cylinder, single camshaft, and flexible valve timing was introduced in 2009. The Ram 1500’s latest engine produces 395 horsepower at 5,600-rpm & 410 lb-ft maximum torque around 3,950 rpm.


FCA’s ultra-lightweight Etorque hybrid drivetrain system is included on both Ecoboost and Hemi vehicles. In addition, the 6-cylinder now generates 90 lb-ft more torque, equal to 130 lb-ft more for the V8. With the 48-volt hybrid engine, 1500 has automatic start/stop functionality as well as brake energy recovery.
